Today a friend of mine and I took a little trip down to the Union Square Greenmarket. We set off armed with our reusable bags and umbrellas, hoping we might miss the rain. It turned out to be a beautiful day. If you haven’t made the journey downtown to the market I highly recommend that you use it as an excuse to take a study break. It’s an easy commute: take the 1/2/3 to 42nd street where you transfer to the NQR (Brooklyn bound) all the way to 14th-Union Square. When you walk out of the station you will be met with hundreds of people sampling delicious cheeses and tomatoes, leafy greens spilling out of their bags. I am not the kind of person who likes being in crowds, but the energy and flow of the market is so exciting and fun! The farmers smile at you, friends greet each other, and the produce is displayed beautifully.
It is a wonderful way to experience the city and explore beyond the Morningside Heights neighborhood! So what does the Greenmarket offer. Whether you come with a list of groceries or let your tastebuds do the shopping I’m sure you’ll find something to satisfy. Today my friend and I picked up some kale, carrots, sweet potatoes, apples, peaches, and apple cider doughnuts. The doughnuts were such a delicious treat! We also got to sample some rosemary lamb sausage and raspberry “fruit spread,” a no-sugar-added jelly alternative. More please!
