Vegan/Gluten Free Friendly Restaurants: Upper West Side Edition

As a (mostly) vegan and gluten free food lover, I have sometimes found it difficult to reconcile my picky stomach with the great joy I find in a delicious meal at a sweet restaurant. As such, after a few years at Barnard, I’ve generated a pretty solid list of fantastic gluten-free/vegan friendly restaurants in (more or less) our hood and thought it was due time I shared:

Cafe Blossom: 82nd and Columbus Ave: Despite the “café” moniker, Café Blossom serves three square meals a day…excuse me, four: brunch J. Everything on the menu is vegan and their wide selection of gluten free options are clearly labeled. My favorite: the raw lasagna. Delicious.

Peacefood Cafe: 82nd and Amsterdam Ave: Another fantastic vegan restaurant just an avenue away from Blossom, Peacefood has some truly divine vegan/gf dessert options to choose from once you’ve finished your dinner (or before your dinner…or as your dinner. I’ve done all of these things).

Awash: Ethiopian between 106th and 107th on Amsterdam Ave…if you call a day ahead they’ll make gluten free injera

Maoz: Falafel and things! 111th and Broadway

Cascabel Taqueria: Fantastic Tex Mex (always GF friendly) on 108th and Broadway

Community: Rice bowl and sweet potato fries, every time. 113th and Broadway

Pisticci (yes, Pisticci!): Brilliant Italian with gluten free pasta accommodations available… Between Broadway and Claremont on La Salle…with some adorable floral wallpaper to boot.

Doaba Deli: Little hole in the wall authentic North Indian food…between 106th and 107th on Columbus

Enjoy! (Hopefully more ‘hoods to come soon…)
