When being a girl means “planting a seed in the neighbor’s garden”

There are two things that I find very interesting about this article , which talks about the killing and neglect of female children in  patriarchal countries like India and China:
1. China and India are poor countries. You would think that the wealthier and more educated a person is in these countries, the more likely that he or she will not discriminate against female children (assuming that you agree that because they have more resources they do not necessarily need male children to take care of them in old age). However, according to this article, this is not the case. In fact, people living in more developed parts of these countries discriminate more against girls than people living in poorer parts of these countries.
2. Pro-choice. Every woman should have the right to choose whether she wants to continue or terminate a pregnancy. How about sex-selective abortions? Anything wrong with that?
